KUCHING: State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki officiated the August edition of the Ibu Pertiwi Flag-Raising Ceremony held at Dataran Pertiwi here today (Aug 10).

The symbolic flag of Ibu Pertiwi was hoisted with full ceremonial traditions. Measuring 25 metres in length and 12.4 metres in width, the flag was raised on a 99.4-metre-high pole.

The ceremony began with an Honour Guard parade by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) personnel, followed by the singing of Sarawak’s state anthem, Ibu Pertiwi. The event was further enlivened by a special cultural performance showcasing Sarawak’s diverse heritage and racial harmony.

The Ibu Pertiwi Flag-Raising Ceremony is an initiative by DBKU aimed at strengthening patriotism and unity among Sarawakians. Since its launch in July 2024, with the inaugural ceremony officiated by Sarawak Premier, it has been held monthly.

DBKU regards the ceremony as a platform to express love for the homeland by proudly flying the Ibu Pertiwi flag at Kuching’s iconic landmarks, thereby reinforcing civic pride and patriotism in line with the state leadership’s aspirations.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman.
