PADAWAN: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has stepped up tree maintenance efforts to ensure public safety and environmental care, particularly during the current spell of windy and rainy weather.
From January to July this year, MPP and its appointed contractors have carried out extensive tree-cutting and trimming works across the municipality.
MPP Chairman Councillor Tan Kai, who conducted a site inspection today, said the checks were aimed at monitoring the quality of work and assessing tree conditions in the wake of last week’s heavy rains and strong winds, which saw several trees toppled in various areas.
“Since January, our MPP team has cut down 124 trees, while contractors have removed 204 trees each month.
“We have also trimmed 161 trees ourselves, with contractors trimming 944 more within our jurisdiction,” Tan said.
He added that 473 wild or non-inventory trees, including coconut trees, have been cut or trimmed by both the council and its contractors over the past seven months.
Tan assured that MPP will continue to monitor its tree inventory and carry out necessary works promptly, especially during adverse weather conditions.
