PUSA: The Sarawak government has allocated RM33 million to enhance sports and community facilities in Beting Maro, aiming to foster active lifestyles and nurture local talent.
Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor said the allocation includes RM25 million for a new sports complex here, RM5 million to upgrade the existing mini stadium, and RM3 million for a sports arena in Beladin.
“With these facilities, almost every village in Beting Maro will have a covered court to encourage a more active and healthy community,” he said this in his speech when officiating at the Saberkas Sports Carnival (KASUS) closing ceremony held in conjunction with Tandang Sari Fest Vol.1 at Dataran Tandang Sari here today (Aug 11).
Razaili also called on local Saberkas committees to continue organising sports activities for youths, including setting up sports clubs under the organisation to support community development plans.
He further emphasised the importance of preserving local culture and heritage through events such as silat competitions, bermukun and cultural-based handicraft activities, which he described as part of Beting Maro’s identity.
At the same time, he encouraged youths to explore modern agricultural and technology-based entrepreneurship, which he said has the potential to boost yields and income.
The four main crops to be cultivated in the area are paddy, pineapples, coconuts and apong (nipa palms).
The carnival was organised by the Beting Maro Saberkas branch in collaboration with the Beting Maro Service Centre and Batang Lupar Service Centre.
It also featured a darts competition participated in by 32 teams from various districts and villages in the Betong Division.
