MIRI: More than 400 squatter residents in Miri have been offered housing lots under a state-backed resettlement scheme.
The initiative, led by the Miri Land and Survey Department, is part of the state’s Squatter Resettlement Solution Programme. It aims to provide secure housing and basic amenities to families who had been living in informal settlements.
During a symbolic handover on Friday (Aug 17), six community representatives received offer letters on behalf of their neighbourhoods.

The first phase covers 230 households from Pujut Corner Colony, identified as a priority area by the State Squatter Management and Settlement Committee.
Beneficiaries will be relocated to the Lusut Resettlement Scheme, which provides access to water, electricity and roads.
The programme involves cooperation between multiple agencies, including Miri City Council, the Public Works Department, the Royal Malaysia Police, Sarawak Energy Berhad and Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd.
