BINTULU: A search is under way in a remote settlement in Tubau, Sebauh, after a 75-year-old man was reported missing two days ago.

The man, identified as Nyaring Minggu, from Rumah Nyaring in the Punan Asel community along Sungai Segang, was last seen leaving his home on Monday morning at about 8:00 am.

He has not returned since.

According to police, his son, Lucas, lodged a report after villagers’ own search efforts failed to locate him.

The reason for his departure from home remains unclear.

The Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (BBP Bintulu) confirmed it received a distress call from Bintulu police at 6:59 am today.

A three-man team led by PBK I Sat Rawing has been deployed to the site, about 130 kilometres inland, which takes roughly three hours to reach via plantation roads.

They are working closely with Tubau police in the joint operation.

So far, no trace of the elderly villager has been found.
