MUKAH: Integrity is not merely a noble value but an obligation that must be upheld in every aspect of life, from administrative processes and procurement management to daily decision-making.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak Director, Hasbillah Mohamad Salleh, said that everyone must be aware that leakages, abuse of power, and corrupt practices in public service can undermine government policies and weaken public trust in institutions.

“In the context of Malaysia MADANI, the value of integrity is the foundation of accountability and responsibility. Without integrity, the MADANI principles of respect, compassion and trust cannot be realised. Therefore, it is our duty not only to practise integrity personally but also to lead by example,” he added.

Hasbillah said this when officiating the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Empowerment Programme with officers and staff of Mukah Polytechnic (PMU) here on Thursday.

In this regard, he noted that PMU is not only producing the nation’s technical workforce but also shaping individuals who are ethical and morally upright.

He stressed that integrity must become an organisational culture, embedded throughout, from meeting rooms to lecture halls, and from administration to the frontlines of service.

In addition, Hasbillah stated that the MACC welcomes collaboration with PMU, as through education, empowerment, and knowledge-sharing, organisations can build inner strength to reject corruption from the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, PMU Director, Suhaili Aleh, said that within the context of higher education, particularly at PMU, the culture of integrity must be instilled from the classroom so that the younger generation develops a strong identity, free from any form of misconduct or abuse of power.

“PMU is also committed to producing graduates of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) who are not only highly skilled but also embody integrity and ethics,” added Suhaili.

“These values are essential to ensure they can become trusted professionals who contribute to the nation’s economic development with prudence.”

At the same time, Suhaili expressed hope that this programme would benefit all participants and serve as a catalyst for strengthening the culture of integrity among the PMU community.
