MIRI: A routine Sunday morning took a dramatic turn for villagers in Kuala Baram when firefighters were called to remove a six-foot python that had slithered into a home near Kampung Masjid.

The call for help came at 11:20 am from a resident, who reported the presence of the reptile.

Within minutes, a team from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched, travelling nearly 28 kilometres to reach the scene.

Arriving at 11:48 am, the crew confirmed the presence of a reticulated python inside the house.

Led by PBK II Awang Arizal, the firefighters swiftly carried out a size-up before moving in with specialised snake-catching tools, including a restraining pole and snare.

The operation began at 11:49 am and ended successfully by 12:10 pm when the python was safely captured without harm to either residents or firefighters.

The team then returned to base, arriving back at the station at 12:50 pm.

No other agencies were involved in the incident, and no injuries were reported.

The Lutong fire station reminded the public that while pythons are common in the area, especially near water bodies and settlements, residents should never attempt to handle such situations themselves.

Immediate calls to the fire service can prevent unnecessary risks.
