KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Works (KKR) is intensifying collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and the Civil Defence Force (APM) to safeguard road users, particularly in high-risk areas.

Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said one of the key initiatives involves integrating the Road Accident Management System (RAMS) with PDRM’s Integrated Police Reporting System (IPRS) to enhance accident reporting and management.

He noted that the ministry has also implemented a series of safety improvements to address engineering-related risks on federal roads and highways.

“These measures include upgrading accident-prone locations, known as ‘black spots,’ and installing street lights in areas identified as high risk,” he explained.

In addition, speed limits have been temporarily reduced during festive seasons, from 90 km/h to 80 km/h on federal roads, and from 110 km/h to 100 km/h on highways across Malaysia, to curb accidents.

Responding to a question from Senator Dr Wan Martina Wan Yusoff in the Dewan Negara, Nanta emphasised that regular road maintenance and infrastructure upgrades remain a priority.

“The ministry is committed to ensuring road safety remains at the highest level through consistent maintenance and continuous infrastructure enhancement,” he stressed.
