SARIKEI: Preparations for the Sarawak-level National Day 2025 celebration, which will be held in Sarikei on August 31, are now 95 per cent complete.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said that the overall arrangements are progressing smoothly, with only minor adjustments needed, particularly for the performances.
“There are a few things we need to fine-tune, especially for the performances, but they are not major issues and are being addressed,” she said after attending the full rehearsal of the celebration here today.
Fatimah expressed confidence that the event will be a vibrant and memorable occasion, supported by various parties, including Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Public Communication Unit), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, along with the Sarikei Resident Office Committee and technical teams.
She also congratulated the Director of the Sarawak Protocol, Ceremony, and Event Management Unit (UPPANS), Datuk Hamdan Sharbini, and his team for their hard work in ensuring that this year’s celebration in Sarikei will be just as special as those held in previous years.
“In Sarikei, it is no exception. It will also be celebrated with joy and cheerfulness,” she added.
The Sarawak-level National Day 2025 celebration is expected to draw thousands of visitors with a line-up of performances, parades, and independence-themed activities.
On August 30, from 8:00 pm to midnight, the National Day Eve celebration will take place at the Sarikei Sports Complex and is expected to attract about 10,000 attendees.
On August 31, the programme will begin at 7:00 am with a ‘Unity Walk’ at Sarikei Stadium, bringing together 5,000 participants from diverse backgrounds in a symbolic celebration of unity and community strength.
