151 Indonesians repatriated from Miri depot in large-scale ops

KUCHING: A total of 151 Indonesians, including nine children, were sent home in a large-scale repatriation exercise at the Tebedu-Entikong checkpoint last Thursday (Aug 28).

The Sarawak Immigration Department said the cross-border transfer began at 7:45 pm and was completed later the same evening.

Among those being sent home were 109 men, 33 women, eight boys, and a girl – all of whom had been detained for various immigration offences

Earlier, the group were transported from the Bekenu Immigration Depot in Miri to the Tebedu–Entikong checkpoint in Serian.

The operation was led by Deputy Assistant Director of Immigration (TPPI), Felicia Bangau Tambi, supported by 14 officers.

The group travelled in a convoy of four buses, a Toyota Hiace, and a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The department said the exercise was carried out according to strict standard operating procedures (SOPs), with cooperation from border agencies to ensure the process was safe and orderly.
