MIRI: New health clinics will be built in Long San, Lubok Antu, and Limbang to improve access to healthcare services for residents in Sarawak’s remote areas.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said a contractor has already been appointed, and the projects are expected to be completed within three to four years.
He stressed the developments were crucial to ensure rural communities no longer faced difficulties in obtaining medical treatment.
“Alhamdulillah, within three to four years, the people of Long San, Ulu Baram will no longer need to endure hardship as a new clinic will be provided.
“In Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, the old riverside clinic in poor condition is being replaced with a new facility.
“In Limbang, although there is a hospital, there is no health clinic. Recently, I was informed that people queued as early as 4.30 am at the hospital’s outpatient department. Therefore, I have approved the construction of a new clinic next to the hospital,” he said.
Lukanisman was quoted as saying in a news report by TVS during the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) programme held in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations here recently.
The event, which combined the “Jiwa@Komuniti Madani programme” with the KMJG convoy, drew participation from various security agencies including the Marine Police, Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the Sarawak Rivers Board.
The celebration featured a sea segment involving local fishing boats, while the land convoy included government agencies and high-powered motorcycle clubs such as Brother Bikers Miri Club and Kelab Maxiscooter Miri.
During the programme, Lukanisman, who is also Sibuti MP, presented RM12,000 in Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) grants to six Madani community groups in his constituency.
