KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar received a courtesy call from the newly appointed British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ajay Sharma at the Astana Negeri today.
The meeting aimed to strengthen international relations between Sarawak and the United Kingdom while providing an opportunity for Sharma to formally introduce himself in his new role.
During the discussion, Wan Junaidi and Sharma exchanged views on current issues of mutual interest and explored ways to enhance collaboration in key areas, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), new economy, infrastructure development, culture, tourism, investment, technology, and youth empowerment, particularly in rural Sarawak.
The talks also touched on English language teaching in Sarawak by teachers from the United Kingdom and potential cooperation in renewable energy.
Also present were Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Rebecca Carter (Political and Economic Counsellor), Rhys Jackson (Foreign Policy Advisor), and Iman Hamdan (Government Liaison and Protocol Officer).
