BAU: The Bung Bratak Heritage Centre will soon have access to electricity following the official handover of the RM1 million Electricity Supply Connection Project site here today (Sept 2).
The project is funded by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and the Public Works Department (PWD) as the main implementing agencies.
It involves substation connection works as well as an upgrade of the electrical wiring scheduled from Jul 17 to Oct 16.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the implementation of the project is a step ahead for Bung Bratak, which has long faced constraints due to the absence of such a basic facility.
“With the availability of electricity, various activities can be organised, not only for the annual Bung Bratak Day celebration on May 1, but also festivals and more consistent tourism programmes to attract visitors,” he said.
He pointed out that Bung Bratak does not belong to a single community, but is a shared heritage that should be developed as a cultural and historical tourism destination.
He urged the Bung Bratak Heritage Association to be more proactive in promoting the area, with government support in infrastructure and other facilities.
Once completed, the project is expected to transform the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre into a more advanced, sustainable, and attractive heritage tourism hub for future generations.
