SERIAN: The Sarawak government has reaffirmed its commitment to rural development with the launch of two key projects in Kampung Paon Gahat, Serian.
The initiatives, comprising the upgrading of the Miasu agricultural road and the installation of a gabion along the Paon Gahat River, were officially launched during a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday (Sept 2)
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben, who is also Kedup assemblyman, officiated at the ceremony.
He stressed the state government’s determination to enhance rural infrastructure, particularly agricultural roads which he described as crucial to driving local economic growth.
“I hope this project will bring lasting benefits to farmers and the local community,” he said in his speech.
The road project involves upgrading a 1.58-km stretch, including the construction of a culvert and a bridge, at a cost of RM508,099.50.
It is being implemented under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), with the Serian Division Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) as the technical agency. Completion is expected by 2026.
Meanwhile, the gabion project covers a 106-metre stretch of the Paon Gahat River and includes resurfacing of the existing road, costing RM200,000.
The works are scheduled to be completed within three months.
