KUCHING: Traffic police will be implementing a traffic management plan for the DBKU Road Race 3.0 Cycling Championship this Sunday (September 7), which will see a 126.1-km route passing through Kuching, Padawan and Bau districts.
The race will start at Tugu Pahlawan, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and end at the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) headquarters.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner, DCP Saifullizan Ishak, said to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of participants as well as the public, a total of 59 police personnel will be deployed, comprising six senior officers and 53 junior officers.
In addition, police will also utilise six patrol cars and 41 heavy motorcycles for the race convoy.
“Temporary and staggered road closures, along with traffic diversions, would be enforced along the race route beginning 6:00 am until the event concludes,” Saifullizan said.
“It will involve roads from Bulatan Semariang to Bulatan Bukit Siol DBKU. These measures are to prevent congestion and allow the public to plan their movements in advance.”
The affected roads are Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Satok, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha, Jalan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wee Boon Pin, Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong, Jalan Batu Kawa-Bau, Kampung Jugan P-Turn (Pan Borneo), Jalan Singai-Matang, Jalan Matang-Politeknik, Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Highway, Jalan Sultan Tengah, Jalan Diplomatik, Demak Jaya roundabout, Abang Haji Suleiman roundabout, Semariang roundabout, and DBKU, Bukit Siol.
Saifullizan also reminded motorists and pedestrians to obey the instructions of police personnel on duty.
“Failure to comply could result in enforcement action under the Road Transport Act 1987,” he stressed.
