KUCHING: The Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from a delegation of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) here today.

The delegation was led by UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit; Dean of the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts, Dr Ringah Kayan; Professor Dr Ramlah Zainudin from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology; and Special Officer to the Vice-Chancellor, Mohd Hussaini Noorjaya Chew.

During the meeting, UNIMAS presented an official invitation to Wan Junaidi to deliver the Statesman’s Lecture, scheduled to take place on September 26, 2025.

The university also showcased a Sarawak Batik design inspired by ideas from Wan Junaidi and Fauziah.

Wan Junaidi expressed hope that Sarawak Batik would continue to grow into a resilient industry, create new economic opportunities, strengthen the state’s identity, and emerge as a leading product with international market potential.

Discussions also touched on the current progress of the UNIMAS Faculty of Law, a proposal initiated by Wan Junaidi himself, as well as other matters concerning the development of higher education in Sarawak.

On this occasion, he extended his appreciation and gratitude to UNIMAS for its continued commitment to advancing education, research and the promotion of arts and culture in the state.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the development of education and the creative industry in Sarawak, particularly in ensuring the state produces high-quality human capital capable of competing at the global level.
