SADONG JAYA: Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapi’ee, has called on the younger generation to embrace patriotism and love for the nation, describing them as heirs to Malaysia’s struggle for independence.
She emphasised that the Jalur Gemilang must be cherished as a symbol of sovereignty, independence and unity, as well as an expression of gratitude for the sacrifices of past heroes.
“The Jalur Gemilang carries the message of one spirit and one soul of nationalism. Each time the convoy arrives in Sarawak, it reminds us of the hope that Sarawak brought to the people’s development through the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963,” she said during the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) Convoy at SMK Sadong Jaya today.
She also praised the people of Sadong Jaya for their strong support of the programme, noting that the school’s selection as a convoy stop reflected the community’s commitment to national aspirations and unity.
This year’s theme, ‘Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni’, she said, reflects the joint commitment of the federal and Sarawak Governments to building a compassionate, inclusive and resilient society.
“This concept aligns with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which is centred on sustainable development and the wellbeing of the people,” she said.
“Malaysia MADANI emphasises three key aspects: cultivating progressive and knowledgeable thinking; strengthening social integration that respects ethnic and cultural diversity, particularly Sarawak’s uniqueness; and ensuring inclusive economic development so that all levels of society benefit.
“The phrase ‘Rakyat Disantuni’ signifies that no individual or community is left behind in the nation’s development. For Sarawak, this concept also resonates with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which safeguards the state’s rights within the Federation of Malaysia,” she said.
Rodiyah added that close cooperation between the federal and Sarawak Governments continues to be reflected through various initiatives, ranging from rural community assistance and quality education to healthcare services reaching remote areas.
She also urged Sarawakians to support the ‘1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang’ campaign in conjunction with National Month, saying it would enliven the spirit of independence while showcasing community unity.
“When every house and village is adorned with the Jalur Gemilang, it not only strengthens the spirit of independence but also reflects the unity of the community,” she said.
Earlier, the KMJG convoy, comprising 13 vehicles from the Sarawak Information Department, Samarahan District Information Office, and the local community, began its journey at An-Najah Mosque in Asajaya before arriving at SMK Sadong Jaya.
