MIRI: Two people were injured when a Perodua Bezza they were in collided with a lorry along the coastal road near Bekenu today.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operation centre, the crash, which happened around 12:50 pm, left the car’s driver, 38-year-old Shahrir Abdurachman, and his passenger, 17-year-old Nur Syafawani Azlie, trapped in the front seats.
Firefighters from Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene, some 23 kilometres from their base, and used hydraulic rescue tools to prise open the vehicle’s front doors.
Both victims were later handed over to paramedics for treatment.
The lorry driver escaped unharmed.
The operation was led by PBK II Azizul Rahman with a five-man team and a fire rescue tender.
Authorities have yet to confirm the extent of the victims’ injuries.
