KUCHING: Sarawakian students have been urged to set their sights on well-paid, future-ready jobs to secure their own prosperity and drive the state’s economic ambitions.
In making the call, Chief Political Secretary to the Premier, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said the government’s commitment is to creating well-paid jobs and ensuring Sarawakians are ready to fill them.
Fazzrudin likened the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to a student’s pursuit of a master’s degree, stressing that education is the foundation for financial security and career progression.
“If you have a master’s degree, you can continue with a PhD or go to work with a decent salary. The benefit is yours; you can contribute back to your family and community.
“The same principle applies to PCDS 2030. It is a strategy to ensure that Sarawak develops economically and families enjoy higher living standards,” he told students at an outreach session at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak today.
He highlighted key growth areas, including the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap, Energy Transition Roadmap and Sarawak Gas Roadmap, all designed to generate abundant job opportunities with competitive pay.
“These are strategies to ensure not just jobs, but jobs that give a decent income to workers.
“We want Sarawakians to fill these roles so that the state economy grows multiple times over,” he said.
The multiplier effect of high salaries, he added, will stimulate downstream activities such as retail, hospitality and recreation, driving broader economic prosperity.
Fazzrudin urged students to nurture a hunger for success, the determination and creativity needed to seize opportunities and overcome obstacles.
“Success needs sacrifices, effort and creativity. With that hunger, you will find ways to overcome challenges without excuses or blaming others.
“Then Sarawak will be in good hands because one day, you will be the leaders,” he said.
The outreach programme is part of a statewide initiative to share government plans and encourage young people to leverage scholarships, training and development schemes.
“We need your help to ensure Sarawak’s success continues, economically and socially, for decades to come,” Fazzrudin added.
