Road closures for Kuching Marathon this weekend

KUCHING: Several major roads here will be closed or diverted from this Friday to make way for the Kuching Marathon 2025.

Kuching Police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the measures are necessary to facilitate preparations and ensure smooth traffic flow during the event, which will see participation from local and international runners.

The closures, involving 24 routes, will be implemented from 10:00 pm on September 19 until 10:00 am on September 21.

Only Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg will be closed early for venue preparations from 10:00 pm on September 19 until 10:00 am on September 21.

Meanwhile, the remaining 23 routes will be closed from 1:00 am to 10:00 am on September 21 for the race.

They are Jalan Taho/Jalan Wawasan traffic light junction leading to Padang Merdeka; Jalan Wawasan/Lebuh Wang; Jalan McDougall (after the U-turn); Jalan Haji Taha slip road; Jalan Ajibah Abol traffic light; Jalan Muhibbah/Jalan Kulas junction; Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob/Padang Merdeka junction; Jalan Kampung Lintang/Jalan Astana traffic light; Court Roundabout; Sesco Roundabout; Samariang Roundabout; Jalan Sultan Tengah (Bomba and Sego traffic light); Yayasan Roundabout; Kesuma Resort Roundabout; Stadium Roundabout; and Gersik Roundabout.

In addition, the closures will also involve Merican Salleh/Kwong Lee Bank traffic light; Tanah Putih Clinic traffic light; Jalan Sekama/Pending traffic lights; Sri Aman Roundabout; and the Jalan Gamelan/Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob junction.

Members of the public are urged not to park by the roadside and to plan ahead by choosing alternative routes to ease traffic congestion.
