KUCHING: A total of 31 schools in Sarawak have been affected by floods as of 8:00 am today, comprising 28 primary schools and three secondary schools.
According to the Ministry of Education (MOE), in Sabah, 38 schools were reported to be affected – 33 primary and five secondary schools – bringing the total number of flood-hit schools in both states to 69.
The ministry said seven temporary evacuation centres (PPS) are currently operating at MOE premises in Sabah.
“As schools prepare to reopen after the Second Term Holiday of the 2025/2026 session, cleaning and maintenance works are being carried out at the affected schools,” the ministry said in a statement.
The MOE added that students impacted by floods are not required to wear school uniforms.
“For students who are stranded and unable to attend school, they may continue their learning through home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).
“MOE is providing the best possible assistance to affected students, including the provision of learning materials as well as psychosocial and emotional support,” it said.
Meanwhile, parents, guardians, teachers, officers and support staff who are affected have been urged to inform their respective schools or departments of their situation.
“Schools and district education offices have also been instructed to obtain updated information from the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat, state education departments, and relevant agencies,” said MOE.
The MOE added that it prioritises the safety and well-being of the entire education community.
