BINTULU: Three enterprises, JF Agroforestry, Logical Structure Sdn Bhd, and Yield Sight System, have emerged as winners of the inaugural Shell LiveWire Malaysia 2025 Bintulu Edition.
JF Agroforestry impressed judges with its focus on sustainable vanilla agroforestry.
Rooted in the family’s farming heritage, the enterprise revitalises underutilised land and establishes a model of innovation and sustainability.
Logical Structure Sdn Bhd introduced Modera, a modular, affordable and sustainable housing system that builds faster, costs less, and adapts to family needs.
The innovation aims to bring hope and accessible housing to low- and middle-income communities, starting from Sarawak.
Yield Sight System won recognition for delivering AI-powered soil and fertiliser insights.
Its technology helps estates cut costs, optimise yields, and verify inputs through real-time, self-hosted data collection and analysis.
The competition, held for the first time in Bintulu at the Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) facility, attracted more than 35 participants.
In a statement, Shell Malaysia said following an intensive bootcamp designed to sharpen entrepreneurial skills, 20 finalists were shortlisted for the final pitching round.
From there, the three enterprises stood out with their innovative business plans and commitment to growth.
Each winner received RM5,000 in startup funding from Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis (Shell MDS) Malaysia Sdn Bhd, along with access to TEGAS resources and opportunities to connect with the global LiveWire network.
TEGAS chief executive officer Udin Bujang said the collaboration with Shell MDS Malaysia reflected their shared commitment to supporting local start-ups and social enterprises.
“This partnership reinforces the transformative power of entrepreneurship in driving economic progress, creating meaningful employment, and building resilient, future-ready communities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shell MDS Malaysia Transformation and Excellence manager Paul Siew praised the participants for using their talents and creativity to deliver impact.
“They’re not just building businesses, they’re uplifting communities, creating jobs, and paving the way for inclusive growth,” he said, adding that it was inspiring to witness the first edition in Bintulu.
The judging panel comprised Bank Simpanan Nasional Business Financing executive Bong Fui Kian, Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak’s Faculty of Humanities, Management and Science senior lecturer Dr Anita Rosli, and Shell MDS Malaysia Supply Chain manager Karen Lau.
Shell LiveWire is the company’s flagship enterprise development programme, which aims to strengthening local economies across the globe by promoting entrepreneurship and developing entrepreneurs.
Since its launch in Sabah in 2015, the programme has expanded to Sarawak in 2016 and Peninsular Malaysia in 2022.
It also aims to inspire young entrepreneurs to innovate and produce real business solutions that meet today’s socio-economic needs.
