BAU: The long-awaited Siniawan Waterfront project, costing RM10.8 mil, was officially launched in conjunction with multiple historic celebrations in the heritage town.

Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said the completion of the project marked a dream come true for the local community after years of waiting.

“Finally, after such a long time, we have the waterfront we have been hoping for. This iconic project will add value to Siniawan and further enhance its appeal as a vibrant heritage town,” he said.

He said this in his welcoming speech during the opening ceremony of the Siniawan Waterfront, held in conjunction with the Siniawan Country Music Festival (SCMF), the 185th anniversary of Siniawan Town and the 15th anniversary of the Siniawan Night Market here on Saturday.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to launch the project.

Miro added that Siniawan has increasingly become a favourite destination for visitors, particularly on weekends with up to 40 per cent of tourists coming from Kalimantan, Indonesia.

He said the new waterfront would further strengthen Siniawan’s position as a unique tourism hub.

“Although Siniawan is small and close to Kuching, its heritage charm and preserved shophouses draw both domestic and international visitors. The new waterfront gives us renewed spirit to preserve our traditions while embracing development for future generations,” he added.

He also outlined several projects under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) for Serembu constituency namely Siniawan Multilevel Parking & Hakka Centre worth RM28 mil; Serembu Food Processing Industrial Park at Paku worth RM40 mil; Integrated Pig Slaughter House Project (Abbatoir) worth RM30 mil; Integrated Cattle Farm Project at Kpg Seromah and Kpg Kandis worth RM15 mil; Tourism Development Projects worth RM10 mil and Bau-Kuching Old Road Upgrading.

Regarding the multi-storey parking project, he said it will feature four levels, with a rooftop stage designed to accommodate 3,000 to 5,000 people at once, where concerts such as the SCMF are planned to be held in the future.

As for the Bau-Kuching road upgrade from a single lane to a dual carriageway, he noted that the design work has been completed by consultants and handed over to the Public Works Department, and is now awaiting implementation.
