MIRI : Police in Miri have intensified their crackdown on illegal street racing, issuing a total of 34 summonses during a late-night operation across several hotspots in the city.
The enforcement exercise, known as Op Samseng Jalanan, was mounted by the Miri District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division between 11pm on Saturday and 3.30 am on Sunday.
The operation was led by Inspector Visvanathan A/L Guna Cekeran, supported by two senior officers and seven rank-and-file personnel.

Acting on intelligence and public complaints, officers carried out surveillance and checks along several key roads often linked with reckless riding.
These included Jalan Tudan, Jalan Marina, Jalan Tanjong Lobang, Jalan Miri By Pass, Jalan Canada Hill and other stretches within the city.
Police said the locations are known gathering points for youths who showcase high speed manoeuvres and dangerous stunts such as wheelies, typically staged on weekends, posing risks to themselves and other road users.
During the operation, police issued 34 summonses for various traffic offences and seized 20 motorcycles under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987, with all vehicles taken to the Miri District Police headquarters for further action.
In a separate incident, one motorcyclist was also issued a summons under Section 55 of the same Act for failing to stop when instructed by police.
The operation was part of continuing efforts to curb dangerous riding and maintain public safety.
Police urged parents to actively monitor their teenage children to prevent involvement in illegal racing or unlicensed riding, noting with concern that many offenders were young, some underage, and likely influenced by peer pressure or thrill seeking behaviour.
Street racing and illegal motorcycle modifications remain a concern in Miri and across Malaysia, with accidents often linked to such activities, prompting national road safety campaigns that urge young riders to undergo proper training, wear protective gear, and obey traffic laws.
The latest operation highlights the district police’s zero tolerance stance against “samseng jalanan,” with more operations planned as part of ongoing enforcement to deter offenders and maintain order on the city’s roads.
