Man missing after croc attack in Tatau

TATAU: A local man is reported missing after he was attacked by a crocodile while bathing with his brother at a river near Ladang Tatau Estate, Sungai Semanok on Saturday (Sept 27).

The victim has been identified as Jeffery Masing Win, 21.

The incident happened at around 8.25 pm when the victim and his brother were bathing at a tributary near a plantation hut.

The victim was attacked and dragged into the water by a crocodile. His brother, who witnessed the incident, attempted to rescue him but was unsuccessful.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tatau station were dispatched to the scene, about 37km away, following an emergency call.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched with assistance from the police, Civil Defence Force (APM), Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), and local villagers.

At the time of writing, the search is ongoing and Jeffery remains unaccounted for.
