KUCHING: All charges against National Professors Council (MPN) president Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Raduan Che Rose have been withdrawn by the Attorney General, clearing his name after months of scrutiny.

In a statement, his solicitors A.M. Zaharil & Co welcomed the decision, describing it as proof of the Attorney General’s Chambers’ commitment to justice based on facts and credible evidence.

“The withdrawal of charges also involved Mr Kefli Mahpol, who faced the same accusation,” the statement said today, noting that the outcome reinforced public confidence in Malaysia’s justice system.

The defence team stressed however that Raduan had endured serious reputational damage as an academic and institutional leader despite the charges now being dismissed.

Records confirmed that he had not misused institutional funds, but instead used his personal savings and overdraft facilities amounting to RM381,000 to sustain MPN during a financial crisis, covering staff salaries, office rent and utilities.

The solicitors explained that the allegations arose from official decisions made in his professional capacity, noting that the approval of advances for income-generating activities and the payment of staff salaries with legitimate progress payments were carried out in line with internal procedures and fully accounted for.

They also pointed out flaws in the investigation, citing confusion over financial terminology and reliance on incomplete information, while a subsequent forensic audit confirmed there was no evidence of misuse or misappropriation of funds.

Stressing that managerial decisions should not be criminalised, the statement said that with the charges withdrawn, Raduan’s reputation should be restored and speculation put to rest.
