MIRI: Miri is set to host its first-ever Amateur Muaythai Challenge from October 31 to November 2 at the Permyjaya Shopping Centre.
The tournament is expected to attract around 150 athletes from across Malaysia and neighbouring countries, bringing together local clubs in a collaborative effort to grow the sport.
According to organising chairperson, Gavin Mattu, the event is a significant step forward for the local combat sports community.
“This is about unity for martial artists, for Muaythai in Miri, and a great time for combat sports in general,” he said.
Mattu highlighted that a primary goal is to provide positive opportunities for young people.
“We want to promote the sport to the youth, raise champions from this area and around Borneo, and show them positive pathways,” he explained.
“Combat sports not only instil discipline and resilience but also offer a healthy alternative that can help youth avoid social problems like bullying and other negative influences.”
