KUCHING: The new Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) Lodge is entering its final stage of design, with tenders for development expected to be called by November this year.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who also chairs TEGAS, said more than RM30 million has been allocated for the project by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“This TEGAS Lodge Sarawak project is a game changer, as the facilities we are developing will be the first of its kind in Malaysia, specifically for digital nomads.

“It will cater not only to local digital nomads but also to those from abroad, where they can carry out their work at the lodge.

“The concept combines accommodation, workspaces, and other living facilities under one roof. This makes it a truly unique development in Malaysia.

“With the funding allocated, this is indeed a significant achievement, and the project is expected to be completed by 2028, God willing,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the TEGAS Media Appreciation Night at a well known cafe here on Wednesday (Oct 1).

Len said the government has set aside 20 hectares of land for the initiative.

“Of this, five hectares are currently occupied by TEGAS Digital Village. The TEGAS Lodge Sarawak will take up another five hectares, while the remaining 10 hectares will be developed into a park that serve as a recreational space for jogging and leisure activities,” he said.

He added that the area will also function as an ecological education hub.

“The park will serve as an educational resource center, particularly for students to learn about wild foods and fruits of Sarawak, helping preserve knowledge of species that may be disappearing,” he added.

Len also said that the role of the media is crucial in ensuring that TEGAS programmes reach all levels of society, particularly those in rural areas.

“The role of the media in disseminating our information is very important because we know such information is crucial, especially for rural residents.
