KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received two separate courtesy calls at the Astana Negeri Sarawak here today.
At 10:00 am, the Governor welcomed the Syariah Chief Judge of the Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department, Datuk Awang Suhaili Ledi, who led a delegation comprising Judge of the Syariah High Court, Rosidi Masli, Acting Chief Registrar Noor Rafidah Ali, and others.
The meeting, among other matters, briefed Wan Junaidi on the development of the draft Bill for the Sarawak Syariah Lawyer Regulation Ordinance, seen as a significant step in strengthening the syariah legal profession and enhancing the syariah legal framework in the State.
The ordinance is expected to raise standards of professionalism, efficiency, and credibility among syariah legal practitioners in Sarawak.
Wan Junaidi expressed his views and wise counsel, stressing his full support for the Syariah Judiciary Department’s efforts to elevate the judiciary to a higher and more competitive level.
He also conveyed his appreciation and prayers for the continued prestige and integrity of the syariah legal profession in Sarawak.
Later at 11:00 am, the Governor received a courtesy call from the top management of the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
During the session, the delegation introduced the LAKMNS leadership line-up and extended an invitation to the Governor to attend the 35th Anniversary Celebration of the Sarawak State Jamek Mosque.
The meeting also provided an avenue for exchanging views and advice on strengthening good governance, particularly in mosque affairs, and the role of LAKMNS in enhancing the management of mosques and suraus across Sarawak.
Wan Junaidi expressed his hope that LAKMNS would continue to strengthen unity and harmony within the community through various initiatives, in line with the State’s aspiration to achieve progress and prosperity by 2030.
