KUCHING: The Local Social Support Centre (PSSS) has been recognised as the best project under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM).
It achieved 96 per cent compliance with methodology and 95 per cent outcome achievement in the ministry’s 2024 Results Report.
PSSS serves as an immediate support system for the community, offering free face-to-face counselling and referrals to welfare aid.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the centre’s registered and experienced counsellors are always ready to listen and guide clients towards the best solutions.
“Up to September 2025, more than 134,000 individuals from various backgrounds have benefited from PSSS. The main issues frequently referred to include stress, depression, anxiety, domestic violence, divorce, and financial burdens.
“This programme has a significant impact on KPWKM target groups, including women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and rural communities,” she said during the launch of the PSSS Friends Programme YKN: Concerned Students at i-CATS University College here yesterday (Oct 4).
She added that the PSSS programme demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing various social challenges.
“This includes mental health issues, domestic violence, abuse, bullying, and sexual harassment. All these services are offered free of charge and are managed by experienced registered counsellors,” she said.
Meanwhile, the PSSS Friends Programme: Concerned Students was also launched to train higher education students to become volunteers and early support agents within the community.
“This is a great and noble responsibility. I believe that with a spirit of volunteerism, students not only gain academic knowledge but are also nurtured with values of empathy, compassion, and community care,” she explained.
