KUCHING: About 500 congregants attended the thanksgiving ceremony celebrating the 35th anniversary of Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak, organised by the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS).

The event yesterday (Oct 5) marked more than three decades of the mosque’s role as a centre for worship, religious education  and community unity.

The mosque, established as one of Sarawak’s key Islamic landmarks, continues to serve as a hub for strengthening Islamic values and fostering social harmony.

LAKMNS, which oversees the mosque’s management, said the anniversary served as a moment to express gratitude for its 35-year journey while sharing future plans to strengthen religious outreach and community engagement.

The evening programme included Maghrib and Isyak congregational prayers, Surah Yasin recitation, thanksgiving prayers and a Quranic recitation by a six-year-old pupil from Tadika Tahfiz Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub (TATTARY), symbolising the nurturing of young Quran learners.

For the record, Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak was officially opened on October 5, 1990 by the then Head of State, the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Ahmad Zaidi Adruce Mohammad Noor.
