KUCHING: Sarawak wants to be recognised not only for its economic progress but also as a hub of cultural and artistic talent by 2030.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the state has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade, gaining respect at both national and international levels.

“By 2030, it is going to be a different Sarawak. We want to be good not only in being prosperous, but also in culture and inclusivity. We want to build talent, not just academic talent, but also cultural and artistic talent,” he said.
Dr Sim stressed that dance and other cultural expressions form a vital part of Sarawak’s nation-building journey.
“Right now, we are here not just for competition or performance. This is part of Sarawak’s nation-building. All these efforts reflect what we can do for Sarawak,” he said.
He was speaking when officiating the 3Third Borneo Open International Dancesport Championship and Convention 2025 and the Fourth Dance for Love Charity Concert at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre here on Tuesday.
Dr Sim praised the organisers for hosting the international event in Kuching, describing it as a significant step in nurturing local talent while showcasing Sarawak’s cultural richness to the world.
The Deputy Premier also highlighted the importance of values, particularly the spirit of giving back to the community.
“Giving back is a value. Culture meets charity through ‘Dance for Love’. This is how we contribute to society as children of Sarawak. Cultural activities should be tied to social responsibility and community building,” he added.
He also urged Sarawakians from all walks of life to play their part in building the state’s future.
“Each and every one of you can do more. Play your role, do your part,” he added. “I urge participants to continue supporting initiatives that promote Sarawak’s values and identity.”
Dr Sim hoped events such as the Borneo Open International Dancesport Championship and Dance for Love Concert will continue annually, serving as a platform to strengthen cultural unity and foster community involvement.
