KUCHING: Kapit is set to take centre stage as the fourth series of the Sarawakku Sayang Programme (SKS) takes place from Jun 26 to 28.

Works Minister and Kapit MP, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the programme is set to become a platform to strengthen ties between the government and the people while showcasing the division’s strategic role as the “powerhouse” driving Sarawak’s development.

He also said hosting SKS in Kapit provides residents with the opportunity to obtain first-hand information on various government policies, assistance schemes and initiatives, while highlighting the division’s immense potential in supporting the state’s development.

“I consider Kapit to be the powerhouse of Sarawak. By ‘powerhouse’, I mean that two hydroelectric dams, Murum and Bakun, are located here.

“And in another two or three years, the Baleh Hydroelectric Dam will also be completed in the Kapit Division. These are what generate electricity for the whole of Sarawak,” he said.

He said this during the Juh Randau programme produced by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), alongside Kapit Resident Elvis Didit, at the UKAS Studio on Wednesday (Jun 24).

Nanta said the people of Kapit are enthusiastic about the upcoming SKS programme, as it allows them to receive direct information on various government assistance schemes and initiatives, including free tertiary education, people’s aid programmes and digital facilities provided by the state government.

Meanwhile, Elvis said the response from local entrepreneurs towards SKS Kapit has been overwhelming, with all business lots allocated for the event fully taken up within a short period.

“The participation from entrepreneurs has been very encouraging. All 50 business lots we offered were snapped up. These are for food and beverage vendors.

“The remaining spaces are for those selling handicrafts and local products such as kelulut honey and many others,” he said.

Elvis added that the strong response reflects the high level of commitment among the local business community in supporting the programme while providing them with an opportunity to promote their products to visitors.

The official opening ceremony of the fourth SKS series is scheduled to be officiated by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Saturday (Jun 27).

During his visit to Kapit, the Premier is also expected to deliver a keynote address to the people and attend several programmes that have been arranged.

In addition to featuring the Sarawak Pavilion and Kapit Kitchen, which will showcase a wide range of local entrepreneurs, the programme will also offer various activities, including traditional sports and games, an e-Contest lucky draw, and cultural performances involving the local community.

The programme further reinforces SKS as a comprehensive platform that brings together development, entrepreneurship, government service delivery and community engagement in a single people-centric event.
