KUCHING: A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today for threatening to kill his mother.
Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu handed down the sentence on Putra Sanggar Francis Mabong, who was unrepresented.
Putra was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
The offence carries a punishment of up to seven years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both, if the threat involves causing death or grievous hurt.
According to the charge, he threatened his 54-year-old mother, with death at about 3:00 pm on October 8, 2025, at their residence near Jalan Batu Kinyang, Taman Liong Seng, here.
Facts of the case revealed that Putra’s mother was in the living room of their house when Putra threatened her in Sarawak Malay, saying, “Bila-bila masa aku bunuh ko dan kelak ku tampar muka ko” (I can kill you at any time and later I will slap your face).
Investigations found that the accused became aggressive after being reprimanded by his mother to take better care of his personal hygiene.
The complainant and another witness subsequently lodged reports regarding the incident.
A police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD), arrested Putra at the same house at about 7:30 pm on the same day.
It was understood that a urine screening conducted on the accused returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The court heard that the threat uttered by the accused had caused fear to the complainant and fulfilled the elements of criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani, whereas the accused was unrepresented.
