KUCHING: Kuching Specialist Hospital (KcSH), part of the KPJ Healthcare Group, launched its new Oncology Daycare Services in conjunction with KPJ’s Open Day, which marks a major step in expanding access to quality cancer care across East Malaysia.
The launch highlights the hospital’s continued efforts in advancing oncology services, and promoting better community health in the region.
Regional Chief Executive Officer of KPJ Healthcare for East Malaysia, Dr Kenny Yeap Kim Pey, said the new services is more than a physical facility, as it represents KPJ’s promise to the community that every patient will have access to comprehensive, specialist-led care, surrounded by support and understanding.

“For families in Sarawak, this development means access to treatment and comfort within their own community.
“It also signifies our continued effort to strengthen healthcare capabilities across East Malaysia and even Kalimantan, Indonesia, ensuring that patients here receive the same level of care available elsewhere in the country,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the launching of the oncology services and the open day, officiated by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, at KPJ building here today.
Yeap added that through the KPJ Health System transformation journey, the facility is part of a wider network of clinical expertise, education and research.
“It allows us to share knowledge, elevate standards, and continuously improve outcomes for patients across our hospitals,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kuching Specialist Hospital Medical Director, Dr Mahadhir Alhady Sulaiman, said the facility is connected to a network that links clinical services, education and research across the healthcare group.
“This enables us to share knowledge, improve practices, and ensure that patients in Sarawak benefit from the collective expertise of KPJ specialists nationwide,” he said.
He added that the hospital’s open day is not only a celebration but also an opportunity for the public to learn more about health, prevention and early detection.
“We hope that through the activities and booths, visitors will gain useful insights and take proactive steps towards their own wellbeing.
“I encourage everyone to be vigilant about your health. Go for screenings, encourage family and friends to seek medical advice early, and remember that timely detection can make all the difference,” he added.
The new facilities also strengthen the hospitals’ role as a regional centre for oncology and sub-specialty care, ensuring continuity of treatment and collaboration across KPJ’s nationwide network.
In the meantime, the hospital’s open day further extended its outreach through guided tours, free health screenings, and educational booths in collaboration with the Pink Ribbon Support Group Sarawak and the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society.
Visitors met with medical specialists and gained insights into cancer prevention, early detection and overall wellbeing.
