KUCHING: The Netherlands is eyeing closer collaboration with Sarawak in port development and the wider maritime sector, with opportunities for technology transfer and modern management expertise on the table.
Its Ambassador to Malaysia, Jacques Werner, said his country was drawn to Sarawak’s vision of strengthening its port system as a catalyst for economic growth.
He noted that Dutch expertise in dredging, port planning, software and innovation could support Sarawak’s long-term goals.

“What Sarawak has outlined in its port plans is impressive. We have many Dutch companies ready to contribute to those ambitions.
“We are here to learn more about Sarawak’s vision and to explore how our knowledge and resources can become part of this partnership,” he said.
Werner said this after paying a courtesy call on Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
He added that the Dutch port mission to Sarawak involved 10 companies from the Netherlands and Southeast Asia, all keen to explore collaboration opportunities.
“Knowledge-sharing and innovation will be central to any cooperation. Dutch companies are always ready to share the expertise and experience that have proven successful at home,” he said.
