KUCHING: No threats or intrusions by foreign fishermen have been recorded in Sarawak waters up to September this year, following continuous joint patrols by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM).

Sarawak MMEA’s Director, First Admiral Mohd Khairi Abd Aziz, said the strategic cooperation between both agencies, particularly in key maritime areas, had successfully deterred illegal activities by foreign fishing vessels.

“Alhamdulillah, throughout 2025, we have not faced any threats from migrants, foreign aircraft, or other risks that could endanger national security and sovereignty.

“TLDM and MMEA remain united in safeguarding Sarawak waters, especially in the Beting Patinggi Ali area,” he said in a report by TVS.

He told this at a press conference after the closing ceremony of the Samudera Perkasa Timur Exercise Series 3/2025 at Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex (KOMTAS) here today.

He explained that the constant presence of MMEA and TLDM vessels in Beting Patinggi Ali had become a vital defence line in ensuring the nation’s maritime security.

At the same time, he urged the fishing community to provide information if they detect any suspicious activities, given the vastness of Sarawak’s waters.

He stressed that cooperation from all parties was crucial to maintaining national security and sovereignty.

With close monitoring and community support, Sarawak waters have remained free from foreign threats throughout this year.
