BINTULU: The Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Sarawak Region has taken a major step in driving public sector transformation through artificial intelligence (AI) with the Bureaucratic Reform Workshop ( Reformasi Kerenah Birokrasi , RKB).
Sarawak State Development Director, Jasni Jubli, representing the Sarawak Federal Secretary (SUPS), emphasised that RKB is a comprehensive transformational approach aimed at removing bureaucratic obstacles and accelerating government service delivery to the people.
“RKB is not merely an effort to reduce procedural red tape, but a cultural shift in the workplace that demands the public sector to be more proactive, agile and outcome-driven,” he said in a welcoming speech during the event here at a hotel today.
Meanwhile, MPC Sarawak’s Director, Dr Mazlina Shafi’I, said that this workshop focused on integrating AI as a key driver of bureaucratic reform.
“MPC views AI technology as a new engine for public sector productivity, not only to speed up routine tasks such as report writing, slide preparation, and official communication, but also to improve data analysis accuracy, and strengthen evidence-based decision making.
“The RKB initiative driven by MPC aligns with Sarawak’s Digital Government agenda, where AI is used to optimise workflows, reduce processing times, and enhance integrity and transparency in public service delivery.
“We aim for Sarawak’s civil servants to be among the earliest in Malaysia to master practical AI skills, in line with the state government’s vision for ‘Digital Government 2030’,” she said.
The two-day workshop brought together 250 participants, including department heads and representatives from federal agencies, with the goal of strengthening understanding of the RKB concept, and enhancing the public sector’s capability to navigate the digital era and AI-driven automation.
Held from October 14 to 15, participants were introduced to AI prompt-writing skills, ChatGPT usage, and integration applications such as Google Sheets, Canva, and CapCut, along with hands-on training on how AI can reduce manual workloads and accelerate reform project implementation.
This practical approach allowed participants not only to understand the concepts but also to witness the productivity gains and time savings brought by the technology.
Results from the workshop showed improved participant understanding of how AI strategically supports RKB implementation, particularly in process improvement, automatic report generation, and the development of smart work systems.
This approach is expected to become a new model for enhancing the effectiveness of government service delivery in Sarawak.
MPC will continue to expand the AI-based RKB initiative throughout Sarawak as part of the national agenda to strengthen a data- and technology-driven productivity ecosystem, towards creating a public service that is efficient, integrity-driven, and citizen-centric.
