DEBAK: The 36.5-kilometre route of the Saribas International MTB Jamboree 2025 left riders wanting more, and organisers plan to deliver next year, with an extended and upgraded course based on strong participant feedback.
The sixth edition of the event, held in Debak, attracted 140 riders from Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, all eager to tackle the challenging terrain.
The race featured eight categories: Men’s Open (18 years and above), Women’s Open (13 years and above), Master A (40-49 years), Master B (50-59 years), Super Master (60 years and above), Super XL (BMI 33 and above), Betong Closed (18 years and above), and Junior (13-17 years) .
Deputy Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, said the positive response this year has prompted organisers to review the route and make improvements.
He said that plans for next year’s seventh edition include extending the course and adding new sections, taking into account areas of the current route that were temporarily closed due to road construction.
“Many participants suggested lengthening the trail and enhancing the challenge,” he told reporters recently.
Razi, who is Saribas Assemblyman, added that the organisers are also considering improvements to the prize structure to further attract international riders.
He said the riders praised the mix of technical climbs, fast descents, and scenic stretches with several expressing their intention to return next year.
The prestigious jamboree was organised by the Betong Division Cycling Association (BCDA) in collaboration with the Saribas Constituency Service Centre and the Sarawak State Youth and Sports Department (JBS).
“Yes, we aim to increase international participation, building on the strong turnout and feedback received from this year’s race,” he said.
