KUCHING: An AI Artventure competition is expected to steal the spotlight as a new platform to nurture the creativity of the young through the fusion of art, education and artificial intelligence (AI).

It is being held in conjunction with the Digital Art Gallery 2025 (DAG25): AI Artventure.

Carrying the theme Green Earth, the competition offers students across the state an opportunity to create art pieces that emphasise environmental sustainability.

Sarawak International Digital Economy Conference (IDECS2025) Secretariat Chief Amirrul Rizwan Mohd Abd Hafiz said each artwork will be processed and enhanced using AI technology and displayed interactively on a five-meter-long digital wall at the Makeramai Makerspace, Plaza Merdeka, here.

“This competition is not just a digital art exhibition, it’s a platform for students to understand the potential of technology in a creative and positive way.

“AI Artventure allows the younger generation to see that AI is not a threat, but rather a tool that can enrich their imagination and develop their talents,” he said during the programme on Tuesday (Oct 21).

He added that the initiative aligns with the Sarawak government’s aspiration to foster a digitally literate society and strengthen the state’s position as a regional innovation and digital economy hub.

The AI Artventure competition offers total prizes worth RM15,000, including a 65-inch iBoard Interactive Panel for the school with the highest participation and an iPad for the student with the most creative AI artwork.

Each participant will also receive an e-certificate and a digital copy of their AI-generated artwork, while members of the public who join the competition stand a chance to win an iPad.

In addition to the competition, DAG25 also features four interactive STEAM-themed zones designed to promote experiential learning: the Art Zone (drawing and colouring), Engineering Zone (magnetic blocks), Construction Zone (Lego structures), and Craft Zone (beadwork and creative crafts).

Visitors can also enjoy various activities at the Makeramai Playzone, an interactive relaxation space under the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) offering virtual reality (VR) experiences, Nintendo Switch games, and 3D Pen activities to encourage creativity in a casual environment.

Amirrul said that DAG25, which will take place from Oct 22 to 26 at Dewan Balai Rong, Makeramai Makerspace, provides the public an opportunity to witness how art and technology can merge to create new and inspiring experiences.

“The exhibition is open to the public free of charge, while competition entries can be submitted through www.aigenius.com.my/dag2025. For more information, visit www.idecs.com.my or follow official social media updates at @idecs25,” he said.
