LAWAS: Strong and continued cooperation between the police and the community is key to ensuring lasting peace and safety in the district, said Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong.
Speaking at a dinner with Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah here on Tuesday, Henry stated that unity and shared responsibility are essential in addressing crimes and curbing drug abuse, particularly among the younger generation.
“We hope our community remains peaceful and free from crime, therefore, collaboration between the police and the people is essential in combating issues like drug abuse.
“In addition, awareness among our youths is very important to help them stay away from negative influences,” he said.
He said that Lawas is undergoing rapid growth, driven by several major developments including the new airport, deep-sea port, and coastal highway – which are expected to transform the district’s economy and connectivity.
Henry pointed out that all these developments require continuous support and cooperation from every party to ensure shared progress.
The dinner, hosted by the Lawas District Police Headquarters (IPD), was also attended by Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner, DCP Saifullizan Ishak, Lawas Police Chief, DSP Liong Tindan, and local community leaders.
