DEBAK: Saribas assemblyman Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam has called on more commercial banks to install automated teller machines (ATMs) in Debak to meet the increasing needs of the growing population.

He said currently, the town only has one ATM operated by Agrobank, which is insufficient to serve the daily financial needs of local residents.

“I have informed the banks about the need to increase the number of ATMs in Debak. At the moment, there is only one machine from Agrobank, but its usage is very high and cannot meet demand.

“We hope that other banks will be interested and agree to install their ATMs at the designated locations in the future,” he told reporters after officiating at the Financial Literacy Programme organised by Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) in collaboration with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) at Dewan Milennia Debak today.

Razi, who is also the Deputy Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, said the addition of more ATM facilities would not only ease financial transactions for rural communities but also help stimulate local economic activities.

He stressed that the proposal should be given serious consideration by financial institutions to ensure better access to banking services for the people of Debak and its surrounding areas.

At the same time, he expressed his appreciation to BSN and BNM for their initiative in organising the financial literacy programme, which aims to raise public awareness on prudent money management and protect individuals from financial scams.

“Such programmes are important to help communities build financial resilience, especially in facing the challenges of the rising cost of living and global economic uncertainty,” he added.
