KUCHING: The Sarawak Skills Open Day 2025, held in conjunction with the TVET Innovation Carnival and the 27th Sarawak Skills Convocation, drew hundreds of students, educators, and industry representatives, showcasing Sarawak’s growing commitment to advancing technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The event, officiated by Sarawak Skills chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, served as a platform for the public to experience Sarawak Skills’ state-of-the-art facilities, creative projects, and training programmes that align with Sarawak’s Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“This open day is a platform to share knowledge, strengthen industry partnerships, and inspire young Sarawakians to master the technical skills that will drive our state’s future economy,” he said on Tuesday (Oct 28).

He emphasised that Sarawak Skills continues to play a vital role in developing skilled human capital to meet the needs of Sarawak’s expanding industries, particularly in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, digital technology, and construction.

“Through TVET, we are shaping a generation of Sarawakians who are not only employable but also innovative, adaptable, and globally competitive.”

Earlier, in his welcoming remarks, Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri said the open day and carnival carried four key objectives, which are to celebrate graduates’ achievements, foster innovation and creativity, strengthen collaboration between TVET institutions and industry, and raise public awareness of TVET’s role in national development.

“These objectives clearly show that Sarawak Skills is not just a technical training centre, but also a hub for innovation and skills development for the future.”

The event featured a wide array of attractions, including a Bazar Jualan, Robot Rumble, Zumba sessions, a fishing competition, Sarawak Skills Got Talent, and innovation exhibitions showcasing student and industry projects.

Interactive booths, career talks, and live demonstrations gave visitors the opportunity to explore TVET career pathways and witness technological creativity firsthand.

Hallman encouraged visitors, especially students, to actively participate in the activities, describing the open day as “a platform to strengthen community ties and share knowledge and experience together”.

Abdul Aziz praised the efforts of Sarawak Skills’ staff and industry partners for their continued commitment to supporting TVET development, noting that strong collaboration among government, industry, and educational institutions is key to sustaining Sarawak’s economic growth.

“Sarawak Skills will continue to strengthen partnerships to ensure our training remains relevant and responsive to the job market.”
