KUCHING: Sarawak must continue to uphold its image as a green economy player, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the state’s initiatives and commitment to environmental sustainability have earned it recognition on the international stage.
This had allowed him to share his views on green energy and the ASEAN Power Grid, particularly at the recent ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) and the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025.
“I was invited by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) to speak at ABIS on the issue of energy and the ASEAN Power Grid. I was also invited by the Singapore Government to discuss on green energy, which is closely related to environmental sustainability.
“It seems that the countries present are well aware of Sarawak, thanks to our policies,” he said in his speech at the state-level National Environment Day (HASN) 2025 celebration at Roxy Beach Resort, Sematan, today.
He also noted that a Japanese expert had mentioned Sarawak’s initiatives during their discussion.
“I was quite surprised, to the point that international media outlets, particularly Bloomberg and CNN, were competing to interview me,” he added.
Following this, Abang Johari urged Sarawakians to safeguard the state’s image as a green economy player in Borneo.
“We will continue to progress towards 2030 and beyond as a state that maintains a balanced approach in managing our economy,” he said.
