SERIAN: Police has arrested three local men in connection with a housebreaking and theft case in Serian recently which had caused losses of about RM2,000.
Serian district police chief Supt. Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said the suspects, aged 25, 28 and 35, were detained on Oct 30 following intelligence gathered by the district police’s Criminal Investigation Division.
“Checks found that all three suspects had previous criminal records, the 25-year-old with four records, the 35-year-old with two, and the 28-year-old with eight records related to drugs and property crimes,” he said in a statement.
The arrests were linked to a housebreaking incident that occurred on Sept 13 in Serian, whereby several items from the house were stolen.
Following the arrests, police recovered three gas cylinders and a chainsaw believed to have been taken during the break-in.
“Initial investigations revealed that all three suspects were involved in the case. They have been remanded for further investigation,” Freddy said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years’ imprisonment, a fine or whipping upon conviction.
Freddy also called on the public to continue cooperating with police by sharing information on any criminal activities in the area via 082-874201 or through the Serian District Police Facebook page.
