KUCHING: Hoan Gallery marked its fourth anniversary with a showcase celebrating art, architecture and Sarawak’s creative growth at Precinct Grande, La Promenade on Friday night.
Gallery representative Ellyza Ezlyn Blaise said that the anniversary coincided with an ongoing exhibition featuring works from past shows, reflecting Hoan Gallery’s creative evolution since its establishment.
“This year marks the fourth year of Hoan Gallery’s journey.
“Visitors can enjoy not only the beautiful artwork and design but also the furniture and architecture that make this space special,” she said.
Ellyza explained that the display of artworks within the showhouse was an intentional effort to blend aesthetics with culture.
“Since this place is already beautiful, we wanted to decorate it with equally beautiful paintings, all sourced from Hoan Gallery.
“As HSL supports art and culture, this space helps bring creativity into the home environment,” she added.
Developed by Hock Seng Lee (HSL), the showhouse stands out for its three-storey layout and features such as an elder-friendly bathroom and home elevator, reflecting inclusivity in design.
“There’s a difference between this house and others because it’s been specially renovated.
“One of the highlights is the master bedroom with a bathroom designed for the elderly, showing that the home prioritises comfort for all generations,” she said.
She added that the collaboration between HSL and Hoan Gallery enables visitors to appreciate how art enhances living spaces while strengthening Sarawak’s creative identity.
“We’re promoting two things at once: a beautiful home and beautiful art,” she said.
Ellyza expressed hope that the event would inspire visitors to see how far the gallery has come since its first exhibition, ‘Colours of the Highlands’ by Alena Murang, up to its current showcase.
“We’ve grown from a small independent gallery into a fully established art space. There were challenges along the way, but that’s part of building something meaningful,” she said.
Since its founding in 2022, Hoan Gallery has organised eight exhibitions, including two group showcases and several solo exhibitions by artists from Malaysia and the region.
Its latest exhibition, ‘Memories of Home’ by Singapore-based watercolourist Marvin Chew, runs until November 9.
Hoan Gallery continues to collaborate with HSL in supporting local and regional artists while fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts in Sarawak.
