LIMBANG: The Wargamas Association of Brunei Darussalam has been strengthening ties with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Sarawak through continuous social and cultural exchanges spanning more than a decade.
President of the Wargamas Association of Brunei Darussalam, Bakar Mohammad Don, described the relationship as inseparable, like flesh and fingernail.
He said the strong bilateral ties have been reflected through various joint programmes with NGOs in Sarawak involving community, social and cultural aspects, as well as goodwill visits to Kuching, Bintulu and Limbang, in addition to regional countries such as Indonesia.
“The leadership and people of Brunei have always maintained good relations with the residents of Limbang and NGOs in Sarawak.
“Many programmes have been held together. We often meet and visit one another, in line with the Bruneian saying ‘beragan-agan’, which means strengthening friendship,” he said.
He said this after attending the Friendship and Goodwill Visit of the Wargamas Association of Brunei Darussalam at Kampung Nauran here today.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the Kampung Nauran Neighbourhood Watch (KRT), Surau Al-Mukarabin Kampung Nauran, and the Kampung Nauran Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).
More than 60 members of the Wargamas Association of Brunei Darussalam participated in the programme, which featured visits to the Kampung Nauran market, zikir marhaban, and a trip to the Limbang Museum.
The delegation departed from Brunei as early as 7:00 am in two vehicles and arrived in Kampung Nauran after about an hour’s journey.
Bakar said that such programmes aim to strengthen bonds of friendship, exchange views, and share cultural knowledge between both sides.
The Wargamas Association of Brunei Darussalam currently has 1,170 members and serves to unite the nation’s senior citizens in supporting the country’s development, progress, and community well-being.
