KUCHING: The once-used phrase “Sarawakians live on trees” has now become a thing of the past, as Sarawak has undergone remarkable progress and transformation.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said as the world today moves rapidly towards digitalisation and environmental sustainability, Sarawak has led the way and adapted its economy with regard to innovation and the latest technology, putting this region on the world map.
“We are leveraging our strengths from renewable energy and digital innovation to natural resources and skilled workforce to position Sarawak as a regional leader in clean industries, cutting-edge technology and advanced manufacturing.
“When the time comes, Sarawak will become a regional power, not only in Malaysia, but also in Southeast Asia and beyond,” he said during the Sarawak Manufacturers Association (SMA) 2025 Awards Dinner held here on Sunday night.
His text of speech was read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Apart from the government’s efforts, Abang Johari stressed that industry players such as manufacturers, producers and entrepreneurs play a key role in the transformation towards Sarawak’s sustainable progress in the future.
“Your efforts to adopt modern technology, increase productivity and expand it to the global market will be key in driving growth and ensuring Sarawak’s position in the international economy,” he said.
“The Sarawak Government remains committed to supporting this growth through sound policies, infrastructure investments, and a conducive business environment that encourages innovation and collaboration.”
