LIVERPOOL: Former Liverpool stars,Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xabi Alonso, have paid a moving tribute to the late Diogo Jota at Anfield today (Nov 11).
Trent, now with Real Madrid, laid a bouquet of red and white flowers and a red PlayStation controller – a nod to Jota’s trademark gamer celebration at a memorial area inside the stadium.
The tribute was accompanied by a heartfelt handwritten message that read in part: “My mate Diogo, you are so missed but still so loved. I smile every time I think about you. Forever 20. YNWA.”
Alonso, who returned to Anfield as Madrid’s head coach, also joined club representatives in laying wreaths for Jota and his brother, André Silva, who both died in a car crash in Spain on Jul 3.
Liverpool supporters responded with applause and banners honouring Jota, whose No. 20 shirt was officially retired by the club earlier this year.
The gestures reflected the deep bonds Jota forged during his time at Liverpool and the respect he earned throughout football.
For many inside Anfield, it was a poignant reminder that rivalries fade but friendship, respect and memory endure.
Real Mardrid are set to play against Liverpool tomorrow at 4.00 am.
