Baram man charged with trafficking over 2kg of meth

SIBU: A 57-year-old man was on Wednesday (Nov 5) produced in the Magistrates’ Court here to face a charge of drug trafficking.

However, no plea was taken from Moh Mee Hing of Baram after the charge was read and explained to him through an interpreter in which he understood.

The charge against Moh alleged that he did traffic in 2055.85g of Methamphetamine at a house in Rejang Park on Oct 22 at about 11am.

The offence framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a death penalty or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, be punished with whipping of not less than 15 strokes.

Moh is also facing another charge of consuming Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.

The charge mentioned that he was found committing the offence at Sungai Merah Police Station, Jalan Wawasan on Oct 22 at about 6pm, thereby committing an offence under Section 15(1)(a) of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

Upon conviction, the offence provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or two years’ imprisonment.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi fixed the next hearing on both charges to Feb 6, 2026 pending chemist report.

The accused, represented by legal counsel Rosli Gapor, was ordered to be further remanded in prison custody.
